Mindful Money Conference and Awards 2024

28th March 2024

Following the success of the Mindful Money Conference and Awards over the past three years, we are excited to announce an innovative and exciting approach in 2024 - Building Community and Celebrating Excellence.

Following the success of the Mindful Money Conference and Awards over the past three years, we are excited to announce an innovative and exciting approach in 2024 - Mainstreaming Impact and Celebrating Excellence.

Attendees at previous conferences have particularly remarked on the way that the event has built community across ethical and impact investing - to learn, share, discuss and network across the investment and finance world. We are doing this more intentionally this year.

An aim of the 2024 conference is to bring together the key actors in ethical and impact investment and accelerate the growth of positive impact investing into the funds management mainstream.

The structure of the conference, with short, sharp addresses and panels, creates an opportunity for roundtables of participants to share, discuss and collaborate on ways to growth impact investing.

Following a networking and refreshments break, the awards ceremony will celebrate the finalists in each category, and the winners. This year, there is a new award - the people’s choice award. We will be reaching out far and wide for New Zealand’s favourite fund provider.

Keynote address: Dylan Lawrence, General Manager for the investments team at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise

Panel discussion: ‘Mobilising Investment for Homes’ will feature initiatives that are driving private sector funding into housing developments that meet urgent social needs. Innovative partnerships have been used to support community housing associations to scale up their provision of social housing, and to meet the urgent need for affordable rental homes.

Panel discussion: 'Ramping up investment in Renewables'

The private sector is driving the energy transition in New Zealand from coal, oil and gas to renewable energy.. The panel, "Ramping up Investment in Renewables," will discuss the scaling up of mainstream finance for new solar and wind power developments as well as distributed solutions, such as the pioneering work of SolarZero in rooftop solar.

Roundtables with experts: Discussion, sharing, and exploring collaboration

A key highlight of the conference will be roundtable discussions, drawing on the interests and experience of the audience. They will be facilitated by some of New Zealand's leaders in mainstreaming positive impact investing. These structured discussions will bring diverse actors across fund management, financial advisers and wealth managers, private capital, venture capital, researchers and government to build a stronger understanding of how mainstream funding through KiwiSaver and managed funds can accelerate investment for positive impact.

Judging process

A robust and independent judging process is a crucial foundation for credibility of the Awards. Mindful Money consults widely in the sector to select 3-4 category judges for each Award category. Judges will be respected for their work, know the category well and be objective.

  • Award entry documentation will be treated as confidential by the organisers and judges.
  • Judges will be asked to declare any conflicts of interest and, if the conflicts are deemed to be significant , will step aside from the judging process.
  • Each judge will volunteer their time without compensation and make a commitment to assist with the integrity of the awards.

The judging process will be robust, fair and focused on recognising excellence amongst the entrants in each category.

  • The judges will prepare a shortlist of finalists and recommend a winner for each Award category. The shortlist for each category will be reviewed by the Judging Committee, a core group of experienced judges, to ensure consistency and integrity.
  • The Judging Committee’s decisions on the selection of entries for the shortlists and the category winners are final.
  • Judging scores remain confidential to judges and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of the awards.
