Is your KiwiSaver still funding Human Rights violations in Palestine?

13th Aug. 2026

In October 2025, a ceasefire brought a temporary reduction in violence after two years of devastating war in Gaza and secured the release of all remaining hostages. It was a moment of relief for a region that has endured immense suffering. But a ceasefire is not peace, and it is not justice.

Gaza lies in ruins, with the vast majority of its civilian infrastructure destroyed, and nearly its entire population still displaced. In the West Bank, the situation has gone from bad to worse: settler violence has intensified, home demolitions are running at more than twice their historical rate, and land seizures continue largely unchecked. The occupation has not ended. In many respects, it has deepened.

From the safety of New Zealand, it is hard to know how we can make a difference.

Our money is fuelling the violation of Palestinian rights

Through it all, one thing has stayed constant: New Zealanders' money has kept flowing into the companies that help sustain the situation. Since investigating this issue in 2023, Mindful Money has documented the continued flow of KiwiSaver and managed fund investment into companies with direct ties to illegal Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory, including construction firms, surveillance providers, banks, and weapons manufacturers. Despite years of evidence, advocacy and public pressure, our research shows that investment in the companies on the list published by the UN Working group on Human Rights almost doubled in the year to September 2025.

There are now signs that public pressure is starting to work. In December 2025, ASB became the first major bank to divest from Motorola Solutions, after sustained pressure from Justice for Palestine, Amnesty International Aotearoa, Mindful Money, and thousands of campaigners and individual KiwiSaver members. It shows that fund managers do respond when their customers speak up. There was a fall in NZ investments in Motorola Solutions, one of the companies targeted in campaigns, by over 18% in the six months to March 2026.

The total KiwiSaver investments in companies on the UN list fell by 20% in the six months to March 2026. However, it still totals over $240 million.

In addition to the UN list, there is further New Zealand funding flowing into other companies linked to violations of Palestinian rights, including weapons suppliers enabling the destruction of Gaza, IT companies providing military and surveillance technology, and companies extracting oil and other resources from Palestinian territory.

These companies receive another $710 million of KiwiSaver investment, making a total of $950 million invested in companies complicit in severe breaches of human rights in Occupied Palestinian Territories in March 2026. They are clearly identified on the Mindful Money website with an OPT symbol. The largest investments go into the following companies:

Most New Zealanders have no idea their retirement savings might be connected to any of this. In our surveys, over 90% of Kiwis say they don't want their money invested in companies that violate human rights, yet very few know how to check.

That's where you come in. You don't need to be an expert in international law or geopolitics to take a stand. You just need two minutes and an internet connection.

Mindful Money's free, independent Fund Checker lets you see exactly which companies your KiwiSaver or investment fund holds. You can easily see those marked with an OPT symbol. If you don't like what you find, you can find an alternative fund that better matches your values.

The list below shows the Kiwisaver funds that invest in global shares and bonds but do not invest in the list of companies involved in violating Palestinian rights.

Note that there are also other KiwiSaver funds that are unable to invest in those OPT companies because they invest only in cash, in NZ and Australian companies, or in real estate, crypto, clean energy or infrastructure.
